Hands down the majority of my income over the last year has been from Affiliate Marketing. To break it down, a business (aka Advertiser) looking to sell a product or generate leads go to an Affiliate Network to help them generate more business. Affiliate Networks get internet marketers and website owners (aka Publishers) to promote offers on their websites for the business (aka Advertiser) and pay usually pay them a CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) ranging from a few cents up to hundreds of dollars based on the product the business is selling.

Real World Example
A while back I created a fansite www.metalgearps3.com about 6 months before the game was released. I threw in some Adsense and signed up with an affiliate program with Gamefly. for anyone unfamiliar with Gamefly, they are basically a Netflix for gamers and video game rentals. They provided me with banners that promoted their “Free Trial Offer” that I put on my site and for every signup, I receive $15.

I also put in some links to Amazon.com and Buy.com for older versions of the games from the Metal Gear series both of which paid me around 5% of every sale generated from someone clicking on my ad.

Now for the few months that I promoted the site, I made about $500 a month on average which is nothing to go nuts about but I set up about 12 different sites for different video games that were about to come out in the next few months.

These days there are more Affiliate programs out on the internet than you may realize ranging from golf products and printer ink to dating sites and wrinkle cream.
