Facebook Ads

One form of generating traffic that has worked well for me in the past has been Facebook Ads, Facebooks own ad network. Similar to Google Adwords, Facebook Ads allows you to create a short text ad as well as allows you to add a small image to your ad. You also have the option of buying ads on a CPC (Cost Per Click) or CPM (Cost per 1000 Impressions).

It is free to signup for Facebook Ads and the only requirement is that you have an actual Facebook Account.

Creating and Ad
You ad is broken down into 3 parts:

  • Title - Maximum 25 Characters
  • Body - Maximum 135 Characters
  • Photo - a 110px by 80px image

Pick Your Audience
One of the main reasons why I like Facebook Ads is that they really allow you to target who will see you ad. You can set up a specific location from as broad as a country down to a specific city. You can also narrow your audience by sex, gender, age, relationship status, interests, and even sexual preference. These work out really well if you are promoting specific offers on your website such as a diet program for women or hair loss for men.

Ad Pricing
Once your ad is complete, you can pick your minimum bid and set your daily spending limits. Facebook says that the minimum bid is $0.01 but in my experience, most ads will run a minimum of around $0.40 - $0.65 for CPC campaigns. For CPM, it is usually around $0.20 - $0.35 for displaying your ad 1000 times.

CPM or CPC
Which is better for displaying your ad, CPM or CPC? Honestly, both work really great and I have had successful results with both. My advice is to test both out and see which is bringing in more conversions. Every website is different so the only real way to determine what is best for you is to test, then re-test, then test again.

My Ad Was Rejected, WTF?
This is the only real drawback with Facebook Ads. In the beginning, there was a lot less regulation and advertisers would exploit the system and put in a bunch of spammy ads and after a while, Facebook tightened the noose and implemented a strict approval process in order to offer Facebook Views a better user experience.

The best thing to do is make sure your grammer is spot on and do not try and sound like a used car salesman. Be unique and do not try to have text that looks spammy.
